“Do you know for sure that you are going to Heaven when you die?”
Vital statistics tell us that during the year 2010 there were over 2,465,936 deaths in the United States. This reveals that over four persons died in some way every minute. That is over 280 deaths every hour of the day. What if you had been one of those statistics, would you be in heaven right now?
The Bible Says, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may KNOW that ye have eternal life…” I John 5:13.
Wouldn’t you like to know for sure that you would go to heaven if you were to die right now? The Bible tells how you can know this.
First: The Bible is made up of two testaments (the old and the new) and the first is the Old Testament. It is the history, prophesy and the instructions of the chosen people of God, the Jews. To understand how to go to heaven it is important to know something that took place in the history of these people, about 2,500 years after God created Adam and Eve. The Jews were in the land of Egypt as slaves, in bondage, and God looked upon their sorrow and responded to their cries for help. God sent a man named Moses to their land, but for them to escape Egypt there was a requirement.
They had to sacrifice one of their lambs and spread its blood over the lintel and down the posts of the door of their houses. This was representative of the blood of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, on the cross. Now, understanding this historical fact of the Jewish people, we need to apply this to our lives today. Jesus died and gave His blood, as God’s lamb, as payment for our sins. By Faith, we can apply His blood to our heart’s door and be on our way to heaven.
Second: The second Testament of the Bible, is the New Testament, which is based upon the Old Testament and it gives additional instructions for Christians to live the life that the Lord wants you to live. “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” 1 Cor.10:13
Thirdly, All through your life, on purpose or not, you have been confessing Satan, sin and self as the lords of your life. You need to repent of this and confess Jesus Christ as the Lord of your life. “Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” Luke 13:3. Romans 10:9 says, “that if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
“Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Saved from hell and saved for eternity!
Right now, wherever you are, you can be on your way to heaven by bowing your head and praying this prayer from your heart: “Dear God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that Jesus died on the cross to pay for my sin. I now accept His death and shed blood as payment for my sin. Forgive me of my sin and come into my heart as Lord of my life. Teach me how to live for you. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Note two versus that will help you to see that the Lord has answered your prayer. I John 5:14 & 15 “And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He heareth us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.” Was your prayer according to the will of God? II Peter 3:9 says “the Lord is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” Yes, it most certainly was: Therefore, if it was according to His will, then He heard you and you have what you desired – eternal life!
One other verse that will be of encouragement to you is John 6:37, “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”
